Yalew Abate elected as the new Speaker of House of Federation

The 5th House of Federation held its first year’s first session today with President Mulatu Teshome delivering opening remarks, where Yalew Abate became the new Speaker of the House.

Mohammed Rashid, who was serving as the Deputy Speaker during the previous House, has been re-elected and sworn in to continue in his post .

Kassa Teklebrhan, former Speaker, transferred power to the newly elected Speaker Yalew Abate, who had served as speaker of the Council of the Amhara legislative body.

Abate was first elevated to the central committee of the ANDM, the ruling party in Amhara Regional State, in 2003, during its 6th congress.

Previously, Yalew has served the House of Federation as a member of its standing committee for Constitutional & Regional Affairs. He had also served the Amhara Regional Administration as chief of its Works & Urban Development Bureau, in 2006.
