JEALOUS CITY

Residential houses have been demolished in order to implement the construction of new housing projects in Addis Abeba. Some residents were given monetary compensation, while others living in government-owned houses were promised residences in different locations. The photograph shown here is pictured near Eri-Bekentu, Arat Kilo on December 2, 2012. As the houses from Filwuha—Taitu Street to Arat Kilo —Adwa Street were evacuated , the  graffiti  is thought to be left by one of the displeased residents. It read as silekenubn aferesubn, literally translated as: since they were jealous of us, they tore down ours.
